The safe drinking project for Xianren School and Kelegou Village, Weichang County, Hebei, funded by TOTO Water Environment Fund (TOTO WEF) was totally completed on July 25, 2017. Mr. Toru Fukazawa, General Manager of TOTO (China) Company Limited, accompanied by the staff of China Environmental Protection Foundation (CEPF), participated in the acceptance of the project. Kelegou Village is located in the southeast of Weichang County, 50km from downtown of Weichang, covering 157.93km2. As there is a severe, local drought here in recent years, which causes a decline of the groundwater, the original drinking water facilities cannot satisfy rural production and life use. Moreover, most of the wells are shallow, permeated by pesticides and chemical fertilizers, and most the wells in farmers’ houses are large-mouth ones, which are unclean. So there aregreat risks in the domesticwater there. To solve these, TOTO WEF funded the construction of public facilities, including well digging, water source protection, water pipe network, etc. By these, the drinking safety and convenience is ensured for more than 3,200 villagers and 2,000 students and teachers of Xianren School, so as to improve the life of people there and their happiness of living in a new village of socialism, as well as the ecology there and the villagers’ sense of environment protection. The project was commenced at the end of December 2016. The well digging and networking were completed at the end of April 2017, indoor installations for Xianren School on May 30, 2017, and those for Kelegou Village on July 1, 2017. Mr. Toru Fukazawa, General Manager of TOTO (China) Company Limited participated in the acceptance of the project, where he expressed TOTO’s philosophy: “Green TOTO, Green Challenge”. On behalf of TOTO, he thanked CEPF and local government for their efforts in the construction and recognized the drinking safety and convenience brought by the project to the children and villagers. He said that this year was the 10thanniversary of TOTO WEF, but TOTO (China) Company Limited will persist in public welfare activities in the next five or ten or even more years.
